Working together

Commissions

Production, rehearsal and campaign photography for theatres, producers, drama schools and opera companies — from the first rehearsal to the image that sells the show.

What I photograph

How does a commission work?
  1. Enquiry. Tell me about the production: dates, venue, and what the photographs are for. The contact form asks for the essentials, and it’s fine if you don’t know everything yet.
  2. Planning. We agree the coverage — which rehearsal or performance, any moments the director or marketing team particularly need — and the licence that fits how the images will be used.
  3. The shoot. I work discreetly around the company, drawing on over 25 years inside theatre to anticipate the moments that tell the story.
  4. Editing. I professionally edit the photographs and select the images that give the strongest coverage of the work, so you receive a finished set rather than every frame.
  5. Delivery. A press selection can be ready within 24 hours when agreed in advance. When I select and edit the images, the full set follows within five working days of the shoot. When you choose your own from a proofing gallery, the five days start from when you send your selection. Either way, it’s usually much sooner.
How much does it cost?

Every commission is quoted individually. There is no one-size-fits-all price: fees are set on a sliding scale according to the needs and scale of the production and the licence required. Send me the details for a quote.

How quickly will we receive the photographs?

Fast. A press selection can be supplied within 24 hours when agreed in advance. When I select and edit the images, the full set follows within five working days of the shoot; when you choose your own from a proofing gallery, the five days start from when you send your selection. It’s usually much sooner.

Who owns the copyright?

Copyright stays with me, and you receive a licence to use the photographs for the purposes we agree. Full details are in my terms and conditions.

What licences are available?

One-year, two-year and perpetual licences, each set out on the quotation or invoice. Licences are non-exclusive unless we agree otherwise, and use after a licence ends needs a new agreement.

How should the photographs be credited?

As “Steve Gregson Photography”, unless we agree a different credit in writing.

Can we edit or retouch the images?

Resizing needed for an agreed use is fine. Anything that materially changes a photograph, such as retouching, compositing or filters, needs my permission first.

Can the photographs be used with AI tools?

Not unless it is agreed in writing. No licence includes using the images to train or feed AI or machine-learning systems.

When is payment due?

Within 28 days of the invoice, by bank transfer (BACS preferred). Unless we agree otherwise, licensed use starts once the invoice has been paid.

Do you work outside London?

Yes. I’m based in London and work across the UK and internationally. Travel and accommodation outside London are agreed at the time of booking.

Have a production in mind?

Tell me about it — even if the details are still taking shape.
